Wilma Rudolph was born in 1940. At the 1960 Olympic games she made history as the first African American woman to win three gold medals for track and field in a single Olympic game, earning medals in the 100-meter, 200-meter, and 4x100 meter relays. She continued on to be a spokesperson for a baking company and a movie studio. Then, she began coaching at DePauw University and used this position to recruit minorities. Her legacy is the Wilma Rudolph Foundation which pairs young kids with tutors to teach them about American Heroes. In 1983, Rudolph was inducted into the US Olympic Hall of Fame
