Rosa Parks

Updated: Mar 1, 2021

Rosa Parks helped initiate the civil rights movement in the United States when she refused to give up her seat to a white man on the bus in 1955. Her actions inspired the Montgomery Bus boycott and she became recognized as a symbol of dignity and strength nationally. In 1956, the Supreme Court ruled bus segregation as unconstitutional. This was all made possible by Rosa Parks and her brave protest. She worked alongside Martin Luther King Jr in the campaign for equality and together they helped improve the lives of many African Americans by raising international awareness.
